WOULD YOU LIKE TO PARTICIPATE IN AN ART PROJECT?
Shhh.... embroidery on bed sheet |
I am currently working on an art project that
explores the imprinting of cultural traditions, beliefs, attitudes and values
on our children. Expressing the psychological through the physical. This work
is informed by traditions of story telling through tapestry, embroidery, rug
making, tattoo and body art.
I am looking for contributions of all forms of
needlework provided they meet the brief. I will stitch contributions on to calico shop mannequins. The
mannequins will form an art installation.
THE BRIEF.
Contributors should respond to the following
question:
What
traditions, beliefs, attitudes or values were instilled in you as a child or
adolescent?
Responses may be positive, negative or neutral.
Dimensions: 8cm square includes a 1.5 cm seam
allowance Workable area 5cm
square.
Fabric: Contributors should work
on the fabric of their choice with the colour and weave of their choice.
Should you wish to have your name recorded as a
contributor please attach your name and location (not address) to your
contribution.
Contributions not used on the mannequin will be
recorded in documentation of the work and may be incorporated in to other
artwork evolving from this project.
I currently do not have funding for postage so I am
relying on the enthusiasm and support of participants. Should you have a group who wishes to collect
pieces to send in one lot, I would be happy to send an express post satchel (within
Australia).
This is an ongoing project but I have nominated May 2015 as an end date as this will give me enough time to complete the work in time for my exhibition at GAFFA Gallery in September.
Please use the contact form in the righthand column of the blog to let me know if you are interested and I can forward the postal address.
