6Y, This is Us, cardboard shoe
boxes, acrylic paint, enamel paint, plastic, paper, pasta, 2018.
Here are their gallery notes
.
This term 6Y looked at the work of
artist Louise Nevelson. Louise Nevelson was an assemblage artist from the
United States of America.
Our sculpture represents the
idea that our cultural identities are complex. We are individuals with our own
feelings, thoughts and ideas. We each have unique physical features and
styles. At the same time we are
members of small and large groups, communities, and society.
Our boxes contain cultural artefacts
that we think represent us. The white represents our shared
identity. White is not a skin colour. It is all the colours of the
spectrum. For example, we are all students and we are all classmates. Some
of us are members of the same sports team. Others share interests like dance,
gaming and eating pasta. Some of us speak the same 2nd language. Some of us
have pets.
I think they did a great job, though if I am honest I could do with a stiff drink about now.
